BG Machine, Inc. standard embossing and back-up rolls are built with an inner shell to provide better and more efficient cooling of the roll.
The nip open and closes either pneumatically using air cylinders or electronically using servos to allow for fast and efficient set-ups and adjustments. The embossing section also has a manual side/side adjust.
The chill roll system and back-up roll are both belt driven to provide smoother, quieter, and more consistent operation than a gear or chain drive system. The belt system also requires much less maintenance as belts are more durable.
The rubber covered back-up roll is mounted on a pivot system. The system also pivots out from the machine to make the roll much easier to change out, and more maintenance friendly.
The number of embossing rolls is customizable with our most popular being two. The two roll system is designed using a turret swivel with a manual or pneumatic in house built gearbox to allow for a quick change of embossing pattern rolls without any free spinning. This ensures minimum down time between vinyl pattern changes.
We use an air actuated heavy-duty stainless steel and aluminum wiper roll system to skim water off the back=up roll. This system automatically pushes against the roll when the drive is engaged. This keeps the operator from having to engage the system during operation to promote safety.
The cantilever chills roll system is offered in a two, three, or four roll system depending on line speed and production needs. The system is set-up to ensure the embosser is easy for the operator to string up the line and prevent excess handling of the hot sheet. The rolls themselves are built from thin walled aluminum for efficient heat transfer with an internal spiraled baffle to allow for even cooling of the sheet. The rolls are mounted on a stainless shaft to prevent corrosion and constructed to allow for easy disassembly.
The machine comes with a varying number of water-cooled idler rolls that can be adjustable up and down to obtain proper sheet height for calibration tooling.
The entire embosser is built to withstand the rigorous extrusion production process. The roll bearings are high quality, heavy-duty, smooth running 2-row tapered roller bearings. The heavy-duty vertical movement of the embossing roll is manufactured with a precision tube-in-tube design that allows for the vertical mechanism to move up and down without any twisting of the machine. The machine is built from a large number of stainless and aluminum parts and the frame is painted a heavy duty epoxy to help negate any corrosion.
The embossers have a heavy-duty control pendant that can be swiveled from the front of the machine to the rear of the machine by the operator. All the machine controls are on the pendant, and are easily accessed by the operator. The central water supply system allows for the input of water in one location, allowing for simpler, cleaner installation. The heavy duty brass quick-disconnects found on the embossing roll and rubber covered back-up roll make roll changes very simple.
The electronics package also adds a screen on the pendant box to control and monitor various functions of the machine. This includes gap opening, torque, temperature monitor of sheet and chill rolls. It also monitors force coming down and will open if an obstruction is detected to promote safety and maintenance. The embosser can then be integrated further into facilities for remote monitoring and furthering industry 4.0.
We also offer a water bath option on our embosser instead of chill rolls. Our water bath is designed to adjust horizontally to easily control the length of time the sheet is submerged. The electronic pendant monitors the sheet temperature as it exists the bath and can be set to a specific temperature which allows the machine to automatically adjust the amount of cooling achieved to ensure consistency in extrusion production.
